The baby was born 16 weeks prematurely at a state-run hospital in the capital of Asuncion. The hospital pronounced him dead after staff tried to revive him for an hour, a doctor who works in the maternity unit told the BBC. According to medical records he weighed only 1.1 pounds when he was born.

“Initially, the baby didn’t move, he practically didn’t have any respiratory reflexes, nor did we hear a heartbeat and, as a result, we declared a premature fetus of 24 weeks dead,” Dr. Ernesto Weber, head of pediatric care at the hospital, told Reuters Television.

The hospital provided the parents Liliana and Jose Alvarenga with a death certificate and a “coffin,” a cardboard box with the baby’s name scribbled on the side. They placed their deceased child in the box, went home, and then the unbelievable happened.

“I opened the box and took the baby out and he cried. I got scared and I said ‘the baby’s crying’ … and then he started moving his arms, his legs and I got scared, we got very scared,” Liliana told Reuters Television.

The baby is now back at the hospital’s intensive care unit and reported to be in a stable condition. An investigation is looking into what happened.

Weird Life: NT woman wakes during surgery but is paralysed and unable to scream

A woman says she will have nightmares for the rest of her life after an horrific operation gone wrong at the Alice Springs Hospital.

During the ordeal Rebecca Jones, 24, claims she woke up during abdominal surgery and could feel every cut of the surgeon’s knife, the Centralian Advocate reports.

But she was unable to scream for help as the anaesthesia had paralysed her.

Ms Jones said she woke up just as doctors were about to start the full operation. She was paralysed and could not open her eyes, but could hear and feel everything.

“I was very aware of what was happening to me,” she said.

“I thought the doctors had woken me up because the surgery was over – I quickly realised that was not the case.

“It first hit me when I tried to take a breath. I couldn’t move and started to panic. I could feel them cutting me open. I can’t describe how it felt. I’ve never felt anything like it before.

“I was freaked out. Then I actually managed to move my hand and someone in the room noticed it.

“He said, ’she’s just moved her hand’. But they kept going. I was trying to scream, to do anything.”

The hospital’s general manager Vicki Taylor has refused to meet with Ms Jones over the issue and refused to be interviewed.

Weird Life: Restaurant – Hospital in Riga – Latvia

Hospitalis is another one of those theme restaurants with great original idea, usually they try to get the lights of interest. Waitresses – nurses, forks and spoons syringes, chairs and carts make the rather paranoid image to be seen if someone visited the restaurant in Riga, Latvia.

What I can not understand is whether such restaurants have regular clients. You will visit them once or twice. Then what?

Oscar the Death Cat

Oscar the cat seems to have an uncanny knack for predicting when nursing home patients are going to die, by curling up next to them during their final hours. His accuracy, observed in 25 cases, has led the staff to call family members once he has chosen someone. It usually means they have less than four hours to live.

The 2-year-old feline was adopted as a kitten and grew up in a third-floor dementia unit at the Steere House Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. The facility treats people with Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s disease and other illnesses. After about six months, the staff noticed Oscar would make his own rounds, just like the doctors and nurses. He’d sniff and observe patients, then sit beside people who would wind up dying in a few hours.

Doctors say most of the people who get a visit from the sweet-faced, gray-and-white cat are so ill they probably don’t know he’s there, so patients aren’t aware he’s a harbinger of death. Most families are grateful for the advanced warning, although one wanted Oscar out of the room while a family member died. When Oscar is put outside, he paces and meows his displeasure.
