Fast Food Hacks You Didn't Know About

Take-Out food has been around since antiquity. Ancient Romans and Greeks were selling food at road stalls, for want of a better word, well from the time the Ancient Greeks and Romans were around! In Pompeii – you know that city that was covered in ash and basically froze in time from AD 79 – they found evidence of equipment used to prepare food outdoors ready to be sold to hungry customers. Today we look at some genius hacks to save you money and get you better tasting take-out food!

15 - Food for thought…
If you’re just in the mood for a grilled cheese, but everyone else is eating McDonalds, don’t stress… you can technically order a grilled cheese. It’s not on the menu, but staff know how to make it. It’s 2 buns, inside out, with cheese in the middle and of course it’s then grilled.

14 - Sink your teeth into this…
Most of us would love a little extra meat in our Chipotle, but are not keen on the extra cost. Simply order half chicken and half beef, and you automatically get extra protein without the additional charges.

13 - Off the menu…
Is this good ol’ poutine! Head to KFC, ask them nicely for some fries, gravy and cheese – and in no time at all and at very little cost – you have yourself a French Canadian delicacy.

12 - Cost Cutting…
Buying a regular meal at Panda’s usually starts at around $5.80 before tax, so save yourself some bucks and order off the kid’s menu. Seriously, the portions are not that small! You’ll get an entrée, a side, a drink and a cookie. What more could you ask for?

11 - Drink up…
Nutella is already addictive, so I’m not sure if I’m doing you a disservice by telling you this. It’s possible to order a Nutella coffee at Starbucks, yep, it’s called a Café Misto and consists of 1 pump of chocolate and hazelnut respectively, plus some caramel drizzle… it’s just as incredible as eating it straight from the jar!

10 - You are what you eat…
And you’re a vegan, but your mates love pizza! Easy, both Domino’s and Pizza Hut have you covered. It’s easy to order meat-free options, but on their thin n crispy menu, there’s also no cheese. There’s no dairy in the crust and no meat in the marinara, so no animal products, fewer calories, less guilt and zero social anxiety.

9 - While we’re on pizza…
Here’s how you can save $10! Order a large carryout 3-topping pizza with bacon, pineapple and ham and you basically have a Honolulu Hawaiian pizza, minus the Parmesan asiago and roasted red peppers. However, add those as additional toppings and you still walk away having saved $7!

8 - More bang for your buck…
Easy to do at Subway! Refrain from ordering the Philly Cheese Steak, but order a Double Steak and Cheese instead. Not only is it the exact same sandwich as the Philly, but costs you $1.50 less plus the added bonus of more meat.

7 - Pass my lips…
This is a great way to save a buck sixty and still enjoy a delicious iced coffee from Starbucks. Order a double shot of espresso in a full cup of ice and then add as much milk and sugar as you please afterwards. What’s great about this hack is you can use a lot less sugar if you’re trying to cut back.

6 - Keeping things fresh...
I know it can be mildly annoying when there are long lines at fast food outlets, but there is a silver lining – and that is you can be guaranteed that the food will be fresh. Besides, it’s called Fast Food for a reason – they’re equipped to deal with the crowds and handle them quickly and efficiently.

5 - Out to lunch…
If you’re heading to Jack in the Box for lunch, here’s a little tip to save a bit of cash. Order two $1 Jr. Bacon Cheeseburgers, remove one bun and stick them together and you find yourself face-to-face with a double bacon cheeseburger with an extra bun, just in case.

4 - Mix and Match…
Feeling indecisive? Burger King can accommodate that! Get the best of both worlds by ordering Frings, they’re a combination of fries and onion rings, and they’re absolutely perfect!

3 - Share and share alike….
Instead of ordering individual 6-inch subs, save yourself a few dollars by ordering a footlong and splitting it. You’re unable to change the meat and the bread, but you have the freedom to change the cheese, produce and condiments.

2 - Cash In…
If you’re a student, there are a number of places that offer student discounts, so cash in on them while you still can! Many take-out places will either give you 10% off your bill or offer free drinks or desserts. You can’t lose by just asking!
