An NHK camera crew has captured a flying fish traveling through the air for 45 seconds, in what could be a new world record.

The footage was taken on Monday, from a ferry near Kuchino-erabu island in Kagoshima prefecture, southwestern Japan.

The fish flew alongside a ferry that was traveling at roughly 30 kilometers per hour. The fish was able to continue flying by occasionally beating the surface of the water with its tail-fin when its flight height became low.

An expert says the flight time beats the previous record of 42 seconds reported by an American researcher in the 1920s. He says the flight of 45 seconds must be close to the fish’s biological limit, as brachial respiration is impossible while flying in air.

An audience in Tel Aviv broke into laughter and applause as a cat gatecrashed a concert to the amazement of the orchestra.

A full house of nearly 3,000 people had gathered to listen to the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, led by conductor Zubin Mehta. He joked that the cat had crept in through the beggar’s entrance, and blamed the condition of the hall. The cat was not the only special guest at the concert - US Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi also voiced her surprise at the feline interruption.

A tarantula was spotted lurking in a bunch of grapes - as a father prepared to give them to his four-year-old boy.

Kevin Hudson, 40, of Elmswell, Suffolk, found the spider in the grapes he had bought at Asda, in nearby Stowmarket, as he washed them for son Rhys.

He caught the 2.5in (5cm) creature and took it to his local vet and it is now being housed at a local reptile centre.

The spider, docile after two days in the fridge, was caught in a plastic box and taken to a local vet, and is now housed at Abbey Aquatics and Reptiles.
