I personally think that Ubuntu is watered-down and is too focused on being easy to use. Ubuntu was meant to appeal to the masses, though, and the masses want something to be easy to use. I personally use Ubuntu as my main distro, but I think I’ll install and use Arch more often once I’m done mutilating my partition tables.

If you like Ubuntu, then use it. I’m not saying no one should use it or that it is a piece of crap. I’m simply saying that, for me, it does not do what I need it to do. To me, it is not going in the direction I think it should be going.

That’s why we have choice. Some people like Ubuntu. Some people like the direction it’s going. More power to them. If they like it, they should use it. If it works for them, they should use it.

My statement is not incorrect. Ubuntu isn’t quite up to selling their distribution yet, but they are offering certain software now that you can obtain by paying for it. While this isn’t a ridiculous idea, it’s definitely not in line with the FOSS ideals. It’s not in line with Debian’s ideals, either. Again, everything is about choice and freedom. This is why Ubuntu can do this. It is still a good product and people will still use it, regardless of the availability of paid software.

No, I am not RMS. No, I do not like RMS. But for me, personally, I don’t wish to use something proprietary or software that I have to pay for. Generally speaking, I donate money to software projects. Typically more than would be charged for the product itself. So why do I care if I get charged for software or not? Choice.

I find you to be nearly as pretentious as people who use the word pretentious. Your elitist statement about ubuntu is both incorrect and ridiculous.

I’m fully aware that most distributions of Linux use the same programs and same kernels (usually within a few patches). The point was the direction Ubuntu is taking is very similar to the direction Microsoft has been going. They only get away with it because they do it in a more friendly light. It was a joke. Lighten up and grow up.
