They send me this awesome video timeline of a kid drummer, starting at the age of 2 till the age of 11. I can’t imagine his skill at the age of 18

he’s not that good. he’s just a little kid playing a drumset, but he hasnt this amazing skill
I’ve been playing since 1988 (and am currently 32)…
This kid has already played all those venues and kept up, no, lead (since the drum is the heartbeat of the band) all of those people…to say he has no skill is definitley an mistake…most kids his age are just barely able to walk in the school band and play a half-decent beat – let alone some 10-14 piece set in front of concert audiences.
One may not think the kid is the greatest, but he IS talented…btw, do you know why so many drummers DON’T sing while they play? Because it is difficult. It means that you know the drum part so well that you do not need to think about it. To me, that puts this kid right up there with Phil Collins and the likes of such artists.
He will definitely need to keep practicing but the whole premise of this clip was to say “imagine the possibilities…”
The kid needs to play jazz. He’s got rhythm, and he’s got creativity, but it’s not going anywhere if he keeps beating that stuff out.
@Patrick: I believe you have a strong point on “do you know why so many drummers DON’T sing while they play?”
@Dextrose: You also have a strong point about jazz, but by my pure knowledge, jazz does not give a solo opportunity at the drummer. Jazz is an extemporization music but maybe? not for the drummer as much as the saxophonist or the guitar player.
I don’t have a jazz literacy. It’s a US music style and I’m Greek. In fact, I don’t know any name of jazz drummer, but I know the name of a lot of rock drummers.
Jazz is great, but too US based.
He’s got some very impressive skills. It’s funny though, my grandpa used to do that when he was 101 years old; and people were just as amazed! So much for people of a normal age then…
