Scoring with XXX Games
"Sometimes after slaying a monster together your hearts are racing and you're celebrating a great triumph, and then it just happens," said Andrea Fryer, Finnish digital artist and game designer. "You get closer and then, well, you're having sex."
Fryer was one of three experts on a panel about MMORPGs at last week's Sex in Videogames conference in San Francisco. The topic? "Emergent sex," or the kinds of salacious activities that show up in non-sexual games like World of Warcraft and Dark Age of Camelot. Fryer explained that the latter was especially sexy because avatars couldn't be undressed — "so you had to get very creative."
The audience, who peppered Fryer and other speakers with questions about everything from one-handed user interface design to profit margins, was an odd blend of roughly 200 game designers, pornographers, sexologists and cultural commentators.
