Boeing 747 @ KaiTak (a tribute)
This is a video tribute of the old Hong Kong’s airport Kai Tak. Landing at Kai Tak could be both challenging and spectacular and starting from 1998 is replaced by Chek Lap Kok Airport.
During the 74 years many accidents did happen during the famous runway 13 approach. Take a look at these video recordings, the feel of this approach.
- Starting with a Microsoft’s Flight Simulator video recording of a Cathay Pacific Boeing 747 landing
- … and here is a real life video of a same plane, same company landing
- … and here is a near miss
- … and here is a landing compilation
- … this is the real thing, as seen from the cockpit
- … and this is the most well known risky landing caught on a video tape

Yea I remeber that one because at that time there was a typhoon at level 10!! Hong kong didn’t have a typhoon level at 10 for decades, and on the day that typhoon level 10 occured, the plane flipped over during landing, but luckliy no one was hurt, I had a friend who was on that plane, and Gee…was she glad to come out alive, so because the wind was so strong other planes had to yaw alittle bit, as shown in the video to slow the plane down for landing.
It was the safest landing at that moment, and pretty risky as well!!!
